The Sr. Data Engineer I is accountable for overall architectural design of data integration applications, databases and processes. This role guides junior data engineers in data integration design and development. The Sr. Data Engineer I has an expert knowledge in the methodologies, technologies and industry best practices associated with process analysis, ETL/ELT development and Change Data Capture (CDC). The Sr. Data Engineer I participates in Proof of Concept projects to explore new tools and processes that have emerged within the industry. This role assists with design and deployment of new data integration solutions and works closely with other Sr. Data Engineers on architectural design of data engineering processes. The Sr. Data Engineer I assists in analysis, design, delivery and continued monitoring of the overall enterprise data strategy to insure that Employers continues to utilize tools and processes that are leading industry best practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for designing overall architecture for building scalable, repeatable data flows across all projects.
Establishes standards for data transfer mechanisms, file transfers vs. ETL jobs, etc.
Modifies existing standards based on industry best practices.
Works closely with other Sr. Data Engineers with architectural design of data integration processes.
Participates in Proof of Concept (POC) activities that investigate new tools and processes.
Works closely with Data Architects to insure data architecture design aligns with the strategic plan for integration architecture and processes.
Translate business strategy requirements into future architectural design and data strategy roadmaps.
Evaluate integration architecture designs to ensure effective and efficient performance across all areas of enterprise data.
Works closely with Data Governance team to assist in maintaining data dictionaries, business glossary definitions, data quality and data linage.
Cultivate and disseminate knowledge of data integration best practices.
Takes an active role in cross-departmental projects when needed.
Mentors less experienced Data Engineers on data warehousing architecture, concepts and design.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Or equivalent work experience 8years’ experience developing data integration architecture and BI solutions
- Extensive experience with multiple database OS systems, including Oracle 11g, SQL Server 2012-16, DB2 (iSeries a plus) and Postgres.
- Experience with managing integration within cloud hosted database environments.
Experience with both Windows and Unix-variant operating systems.
Expert Knowledge of Oracle PL/SQL programming, debugging techniques, performance tuning and optimization.
Strong knowledge of basic IT Security concepts, ITIL concepts, SDLC, Agile methodologies, waterfall, etc.
Expert knowledge of Oracle data loading features including SQL Loader, external tables, and dump file import/export.
Expert knowledge of ETL/ELT and Change Data Capture concepts and tools across multiple platforms such as IBM DataStage and Oracle GoldenGate
Expert understanding of data warehouse concepts, including Entity Relationship modeling, dimensional modeling, use of surrogate keys and various indexing paradigms
Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
Experience in Big Data solutions (Hadoop, Sqoop, Spark, Kafka)
Knowledge of data design required to support machine learning environments.
Experience in Master Data Management design.
Strong understanding of Data Governance methods and practices
Experience in data model design and industry standards
Experience with NoSQL database technologies (Mongo, Cassandra…)
Excellent written and oral communication skills including presentation design and delivery.
Knowledge of java-based micro services and XML pub/sub data interfaces are a plus
Working knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
Working knowledge of network and PC operating systems, including Windows and Unix
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Visio.
Ability to discuss technical issues with non-technical audiences.
